Black Artist Gallery
The WPA and the Federal Arts Project gave out of work artists a chance to create and get paid for it during the late 1930’s. Public Service Announcement posters began to appear featuring great art that was memorable enough to make the messages stick. Health advice of all sorts began appearing on very artsy and cool posters. Social programs were announced. African-American artists benefitted from the program, although it may be unclear which of the artists were minorities. Subjects that were rarely discussed but needed to be benefitted from the posters, especially the fight against venereal disease, which was out of control in late 1930’s America.
